Wendigo Lake Expeditions - Opens Second 9-bed Residential Program

On October 1st, WLE will open a second 9-bed adventure therapy residence for youth at risk in response to the sustained wait list of referrals for this popular program.

The new unit will be staffed by experienced WLE/D.A.R.E. Instructors already in our employ. Extensive training and preparation is underway. With two nine-bed programs, we hope to dramatically reduce the wait time for placements.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to make a referral.

Chris Lamontagne , MSWWelcome Chris Lamontagne to our Clinical Team!

We are delighted that Chris Lamontagne has joined our clinical team. Chris’ professional training includes a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Education from the University of New Hampshire. Chris’s eighteen year professional career in theatre and film, and experience as a theatre instructor, whitewater raft guide, canoe instructor, wilderness emergency medical technician, and adventure therapy field instructor make him unusually well-qualified for his role in our program. Abby Matchette M.S.W. and Chris will collaborate on admission assessments, individual and group counseling, clinical oversight and training of front line staff, family counseling and discharge planning. We anticipate launching recruitment of a third therapist in the near future.

Continuous Improvement – Intensive Staff Training and a New Program Manual

Intensive Training Group PhotoDr. Scott Banderoff and Dr. Sandy Newes of Peak Experience Training spent four days providing our staff team with training designed to enhance the clinical skills of residential program staff. Dr. Newes continues to consult with us on our program content and will return for a second week of staff training in September.

On October 1st, we will release our new program manual to support the latest improvements to our therapeutic curriculum. Our adventure therapy program approaches the promotion of change from a developmental and stages of change context. Understanding the goals of misbehavior, improved strategies to establish the therapeutic alliance, utilizing motivational interviewing, and focusing on strengthening developmental assets are some of the key elements to this enhanced program design. Additional resources for parents and students are being developed at this time.
