Welcoming back Project D.A.R.E. staff and students
The planning for Project D.A.R.E.’s 40th Anniversary is in full swing. We have already heard from quite a few past staff and students who have indicated they are looking forward to attending the reunion and celebration.
The schedule provides a number of options for people to consider participating in, while at the same time creating lots of flexibility and space for people to just connect and visit with people they may not have seen in a long time.
Schedule of Events for Project D.A.R.E. Celebration
o Continental Breakfast from 8:00 9:30;
o A Photo Gallery and Slide Show Room with a videotaped ‘fishbowl’ storytelling area (people will have an opportunity to share their stories about DARE while others listen in) - open all day;
o People are encouraged to email photos or to bring photos/slides to be scanned. We also are welcoming stories.
o A Registration area with Lounge for casual visiting;
o Opportunities for those who wish to try out some of the challenge activities like the Flying Fox and Climbing Wall (safety first);
o Tours of the campus throughout the day for local community and reunion participants;
o Vince Pawis of While Buffalo Healing Lodge has agreed to offer opportunities to learn about traditional cultural values, to participate in a smudging ceremony and for a limited number of registrants, a sweat lodge ceremony;
o The Lunch meal will offer a varied menu, with the opportunity to enjoy some of Project DARE’s traditional trip food menu items;
o the option to advance-purchase commemorative t-shirts to pick up at registration and a commemorative DVD for distribution after the event.
o An official anniversary ceremony during which we will honor Bob Davies, the founder of Project D.A.R.E.; receive greetings from honored guests and some brief remarks from guests celebrating Project DARE’s past and future, and have a group photo.
o ‘Pig Roast’ dinner from 4:30 6:30 will end the official 40th anniversary celebrations with an alcohol-free celebration of Project D.A.R.E.’s first 40 years.
Staff Family and Friends Evening Social
Project D.A.R.E. staff have rented a local venue for the evening of August 13th to provide an opportunity for current and past staff, family and friends to reconnect while entertained by Project D.A.R.E. musical alumni with lots of opportunity for ‘open mike’ in between sets.
Your Input
If you have ideas of things you would like to see be part of the anniversary event, please let me know as there is still time for us to plan additional programming/options.
