Our most frequent employment opportunities are for Instructors, and Irregularly Scheduled Program Support Officers.

Instructors/Residential Care Workers (RCW) provide direct service programming including delivery of the intensive therapeutic and behaviour management program; facilitating adventure activities ranging from games/initiatives, low and high ropes course and challenge course activities; leading wilderness expeditions; and supporting the school program. Instructors typically possess a relevant college certificate or university degree and some work experience relevant to working with youth in an adventure setting. Instructors are required to have, or quickly obtain certifications for Bronze Cross, First Aid, and F-class driver's license. Instructors are paid a variable per diem based on work experience, services provided, and level of responsibility. Working a minimum average of eighteen days per month, typical annual income ranges from $34,000-$40,000 plus benefits including an extended health care plan. Program Support Officers (PSO) provide services such as awake night supervision, transporting students for admission or appointments, supporting behavioural intervention, facility security rounds, general maintenance, and other program support duties. PSOs must possess (or obtain) an F-class license, Standard First Aid, and CPR-C certification and will be provided with on-the-job training. Irregularly scheduled part-time PSOs are paid $12.00 - $13.50/hour and full time regular schedule PSOs earn $13.50 - $16.00/hour plus benefits.

Internships & Co-op Placements
Wendigo Lake Expeditions is a teaching facility with a long history of providing internships and co-op placements. College students enrolled in a Youth Service Worker course of study typically engage in placements of two to four months. Our teaching staff regularly supervise placements of student teachers from Ontario universities. Many of our current staff began as Interns and while Interns receive no payment for work, they are provided with free room and board and the loan of necessary gear.
